PIANO+ competition opens for UK innovation in photonic-based
internet SR OK

PIANO+ is a transnational competition for collaborative research
and development proposals under the European Commission's ERA-NET
Plus scheme that is calling for proposals to develop photonic
technology and systems to enable widespread broadband access of at
least 1 Gbit/s by 2015-20.
PIANO+ is a joint initiative by Germany, Austria, Israel, Poland
and the UK, with Technology Strategy Board providing EUR 5m of
funding.
The competition is open to participants from the UK, Austria,
Germany, Israel, and Poland and project proposals must include at
least one partner from another country. It is expected that a
mixture of small and large projects will be funded, with total
costs typically ranging from EUR 0.5m to EUR 3m.
