South West Science and Industry Strategy
In 2008, the South West Science and Industry
Council was asked by the Board of South West RDA to develop a
Science and Industry Strategy to help to advise and guide its
investments and to stimulate economic growth through facilitating
greater collaboration and knowledge transfer between industry and
HEIs in the region.
Regional Consultation on Innovation
The Council drew on the knowledge and
expertise of its members and a wider group of regional experts to
produce a consultation
document, published in November 2008. This made interim
recommendations on areas which requiring further thought and
investigation; and posed a series of questions to the region.
Over 70 responses were received many respondents had clearly
invested considerable time and effort in doing so.
Recommendations
As well as providing advice and guidance to
the South West Regional Development Agency, we hope that the
recommendations arising from the consultation will contribute
to a wider understanding of the importance of science and
innovation to economic growth. We hope that a range of other
organisations will find them useful in developing their own
strategies and policies to support the development of the regional
economy.
The full recommendations and evidence
will be published shortly.
